Procedure
1.54 ml of a 1N aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide was added to 150 mg of α-{6(R)-[1(S)-ethoxycarbonyl5-(4-piperidyl)pentylamino]-5-oxo-2(S)-(2-thienyl)perhydro-1,4-thiazepin-4-yl}acetic acid dihydrochloride (prepared as described in Example 19), and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 17 hours. At the end of this time, the reaction mixture was adjusted to a pH value of 4.7 by adding 1N aqueous hydrochlodric acid, and the precipitate was collected by filtration, to give 95 mg of the title compound.
