Procedure
n-C6H13SCH2CH2CH2Cl is added to a solution of KSCN in refluxing N,N-dimethylformamide at about 155° C. in an amount sufficient to provide a n-C6H13SCH2CH2Cl:KSCN molar ratio of about 1:1. Upon completion of the addition of n-C6H13SCH2CH2CH2Cl, the reaction mixture is refluxed an additional 0.5 hours. The amount of n-C6H13SCH2CH2CH2NCS formed was measured by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry.
