Zn (0.041 g, 0.632 mmol) and ammonium chloride (0.034 g, 1.58 mmol) were added to a solution of 2-(2-Amino-pyrimidin-4-yl)-1-methyl-3-(3-nitro-benzyl)-4-oxo-1,4,6,7-tetrahydro-pyrrolo[3,2-c]pyridine-5-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (0.075 g, 0.158 mmol) was dissolved in dioxane (5 ml) and purite water (1.0 ml) and the reaction mixture was stirred at 75° C. for 2 hours. A solution of Na2HPO4 (10 ml) was then added and the water layer was extracted with EtOAc (3×10 ml). The organic layers were dried over Na2SO4, filtered, and the solvent was removed under reduced pressure yielding 3-(3-Amino-benzyl)-2-(2-amino-pyrimidin-4-yl)-1-methyl-4-oxo-1,4,6,7-tetrahydro-pyrrolo-[3,2-c]pyridine-5-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (0.071 g, 0.158 mmol, 100%).
