Reaction Steps

A solution of (Z)-2-cinnamoyl-3-amino-5-bromo-benzofuran (28 g, 81.83 mmol) in AcOH (70 mL) and H3PO4 (70 mL) was refluxed for 2 hours. TLC showed the reaction completed. The mixture was cooled to room temperature and poured into water (250 mL) The yellow solids precipitated out were collected by filtration to give 8-bromo-2-phenyl-2,3-dihydro-benzofuro[3,2-b]pyridin-4(1H)-one (6C) (23.8 g, 85% yield).
