Potassium carbonate [584-08-7] (35.8 g, 259.2 mmol) was added to a solution of [2-(3-bromo-phenoxy)-ethyl]-[2-(2,2,2-trifluoro-acetylamino)-ethyl]-carbamic acid tert-butyl ester (4.7 g, 10.3 mmol) in 10% (v/v) aqueous methanol (200 mL) and stirred at 50° C. for 5 h. The reaction mixture was filtered, the filtrate evaporated to dryness, dissolved in ethyl acetate, washed with brine, dried (CaSO4) and evaporated to yield 3.8 g of (2-amino-ethyl)-[2-(3-bromo-phenoxy)-ethyl]-carbamic acid tert-butyl ester as a clear yellow oil. LRMS (ESI) m/z 359.1/361.1 [(M+H)]+, calc'd for C15H23BrN2O3: 359.27.
