5-(4-chloro-3-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)furan-2-carbaldehyde (4.00 g, 14.5 mmol), nitroethane (3.00 ml, 40.7 mmol), n-butylamine (1.7 ml, 17.5 mmol) and acetic acid (7.5 ml) were mixed and heated up to 80° C. for 2 h. After cooling to RT the mixture was filtered. The precipitate was crystallized from ethanol affording 2.58 g of the title product. 1H-NMR (400 MHz; d6-DMSO): δ 2.62 (s, 3H), 7.39 (d, 1H), 7.57 (d, 1H), 7.87 (m, 1H), 8.00 (s, 1H), 8.11 (m, 1H), 8.22 (m, 1H).
