Reaction Steps

A commercially available dinitrophenol (10.0 g, 54.3 mmol) was dissolved in 250 mL of methylenechloride, and water was removed on anhydrous magnesium sulfate. Solvent was removed by filtration under the reduced pressure. After the anhydrous dinitrophenol (10.0 g, 54.3 mmol) was dissolved in anhydrous THF (300 mL), NaH (0.782 g, 32.6 mmol) was added slowly. After all NaH was added, the solution was stirred for 3 hrs. Solvent was removed under reduced pressure to obtain 60 mol % sodium dinitrophenolate.
