Procedure
A heavy wall pressure flask was charged with (5-bromo-2-fluorophenyl)(pyridin-3-yl)methanone (3.417 g, 12.2 mmol) and dioxane (30 mL). Methylhydrazine (1.4 mL, 26.6 mmol) was then added, and the mixture was heated to 100° C. for 16 hours. The crude mixture was concentrated, and purified by column chromatography (gradient 0 to 55% EtOAc in hexanes) to give the product. 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ 9.19 (d, J=2.1 Hz, 1H), 8.65 (dd, J=4.9, 1.5 Hz, 1H), 8.28 (d, J=8.0 Hz, 1H), 8.13 (d, J=1.6 Hz, 1H), 7.54 (dd, J=8.9, 1.7 Hz, 1H), 7.49 (dd, J=8.0, 4.9 Hz, 1H), 7.35 (d, J=8.9 Hz, 1H), 4.15 (s, 3H).
