A heavy wall pressure flask was charged with (5-bromo-2-fluorophenyl)(pyridin-2-yl)methanone (0.98 g, 3.5 mmol) and dioxane (10 mL). Methylhydrazine (0.4 mL, 7.7 mmol) was then added, and the mixture was heated to 100° C. for 15 hours. The crude mixture was concentrated, and purified by column chromatography (gradient 0 to 20% EtOAc in hexanes) to give the product. NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ 8.84 (s, 1H), 8.73 (d, J=4.8 Hz, 1H), 8.11 (d, J=8.0 Hz, 1H), 7.76 (t, J=7.7 Hz, 1H), 7.50 (d, J=8.8 Hz, 1H), 7.28 (d, J=8.8 Hz, 1H), 7.24 (d, J=7.3 Hz, 1H), 4.12 (s, 3H).
