Procedure
To a solution of 25 mg (0.079 mmol) of 4-(2-amino-ethoxy)-3-phenyl-2H-isoquinolin-1-one hydrochloride (cmpd. 1) in formic acid (0.1 mL), 8 μL (0.08 mmol) of formaldehyde (37% in water) were added and the mixture was refluxed for 1 hour. The solvent was concentrated under reduced pressure and the resulting crude was purified by preparative HPLC affording 12 mg of the title compound (51%).
