8.3 g (24.7 mmol) of the 1-{3-(dimethylamino)propyl}-1-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1,3-dihydro-5-isobenzofurancarbonitrile prepared in Example 1 was dissolved in 85 ml of ethanol, and 3.4 g (27.2 mmol) of oxalic acid was slowly added at room temperature. The solution was stirred at room temperature for 0.5 hr, and it was cooled to 0° C. and further stirred for 1 hr. The solution was filtered to recover the precipitate. The precipitate was washed with hexane and dried to afford 7.1 g of the target compound as a white solid (yield: 67%).
