To [3-(4-chloro-2-hydroxymethyl-phenoxy)-4-methoxy-phenyl]acetic acid ethyl ester (0.9 g, 2.6 mmol) in DME was added phosphorus tribromide (0.37 mL, 3.9 mmol), and the reaction was stirred for 3 hours at room temperature. The mixture was worked-up to give the title compound.
