Reaction Steps
To a stirred solution of iodine (99 mg, 0.39 mmol) in CH2Cl2/MeOH (9:1, 110 mL) was added dropwise a solution of 6D (40 mg, 0.0039 mmol) in CH2Cl2/MeOH (9:1, 60 mL) over 30 min, the reaction mixture was then allowed to stir for a further 30 min after which time sodium thiosulfate (40 mL, 0.05 M) was added. The layers were separated and the product was extracted with CH2Cl2 (3×25 ml) dried over MgSO4 and the solvent was removed in vacuo. Purification was then carried out by column chromatography on silica gel (1-5% MeOH/CH2Cl2) which gave an inseparable mixture of isomers 7D & 7D′ (1:1, 11 mg, 0.02 mmol, 54%).
