To a mixture of 8-(benzyloxy)-4-chloro-2-methylquinoline (3.09 g, 10.9 mmol), potassium carbonate (3.22 g, 32.8 mmol) in DMSO (30 mL) was added water (1.00 mL) to dissolve the solid. The mixture was heated at 140° C. for 2 h and was added 2N NaOH (12 mL, 24.0 mmol) and heated at 130° C. overnight. The mixture was poured into ice/NaHCO3. Solid precipitated and was filtered, washed with water and dried to give 8-(benzyloxy)-2-methylquinolin-4-ol (2.34 g, 81%).
