A solution of 2-benzyloxy-6-(4-tert-butoxycarbonylamino-butoxy)-benzoic acid methyl ester (1.6 g, 3.7 mmol) in 30 mL of CH2Cl2/TFA (2:1) is stirred at RT for 20 min. The solvent is removed under reduced pressure and the residue is re-dissolved in CH2Cl2. The solution is washed with sat. NaHCO3, brine, and dried over sodium sulfate. The solvent is removed under reduced pressure to give the crude product as a colorless liquid. This is used directly in the next step.
