Analogously to Example 15A, 4.80 g (25.8 mmol) of methyl 2-(1-hydroxyethyl)-6-heptenoate (Example 21A) are reacted with 39.0 ml of a 1 M sodium hydroxide solution to give 2-(1-hydroxyethyl)-6-heptenoic acid.
