Procedure
The 5-methoxy-3-(imidazol-1-yl-methyl)-pyridazine (IX) is dissolved in dioxane and NaOH is added. The mixture is refluxed for about 7 hours, cooled to room temperature and quenched with HCl. The pH is adjusted to 8 with saturated solution of NaHCO3. The solvent is removed in vacuo and the residue is taken in MeOH. After filtration, the solvent is removed in vacuo and diluted with MeOH to provide the corresponding 6-(imidazol-1-yl-methyl)-1H-pyridazin-4-one (X).
