As another example, 2-fluoromethyl-1,1,4,4-tetrafluorobutane may be prepared by oxidizing commercially available 3-fluoro-1,2-propanediol to form a product which may then be reacted with CF2 carbene to form 2-fluoromethyl-1,1,4,4-tetrafluoro-1,3-butadiene which may then be hydrogenated to form 2-fluoromethyl-1,1,4,4-tetrafluorobutane.
