Procedure
This compound was prepared by aldol condensation of 2 g (0.011 mol) of (+)-(1R,5S)-5-ethyl-2,6,6-trimethyl-2-cyclohexen-1-carbaldehyde (obtained according to example 4i.) with 2 ml (0.03 mol) of acetone, in 10 ml of ethanol. After adding 0.1 ml of a 30% solution of CH3ONa in methanol, the reaction was allowed to proceed for about 65 h. Following the usual treatment, 1.3 g of 95% pure mixture were obtained, containing 83% of the above-mentioned butenone, 13% of its α-trans isomer and 4% of its α-cis isomer.
