Reaction Steps

A solution of 2 -(3-methoxy-2-pyridylmethylthio)ethylamine (2.1 g) in methanol (33 ml) was added over 25 minutes to a stirred solution of 1-nitro-2-methylthio-2-methylsulphinylethylene (2.1 g) in methanol (75 ml) at 30°. After standing for an hour the solution was concentrated to give a yellow-brown oil which was crystallised from ethanol/ether to yield 1-nitro-2-methylthio-2-[2-(3-methoxy-2-pyridylmethylthio)-ethylamino]ethylene (1.9 g), m.p. 87.5°-88.5°.
