In 10.2 ml of methanol were dissolved 1.27 g of methyl 3-[(2-guanidinothiazol-4-yl)methylthio]propionimidate and 0.86 g of methanesulfonamide and after reacting for 48 hours at room temperature, the solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure. Then, the residue formed was purified by a silica gel column chromatography using a mixture of chloroform and methanol (20:1→10:1) to provide 1.44 g amorphous N-methanesulfonyl-3-[(2-guanidinothiazol-4-yl)-methylthio]propionamidine. The product shows the following physicochemical properties:
