Acetic acid containing butadiene and nitrogen gas containing oxygen were continuously introduced into the reactor over 2,700 hours in completely the same manner as in Example 4 to conduct a reaction for yielding diacetoxybutene. Subsequently, the catalyst was withdrawn through the upper part of the reactor and examined for palladium content. As a result, the palladium content was found to be 4.8% by weight, i.e., it had decreased to 92.3% of the initial content. Furthermore, the surface of the catalyst withdrawn was examined with an optical microscope. As a result, many mars formed by friction were observed.
