A mixture of 1-(2-Chloromethyl-3-ethyl-3H-benzoimidazol-5-yl)-ethanone (150 mg, 0.63 mmol), 2-(1H-Imidazol-2-yl)-thiazole (95 mg, 0.63 mmol) and K2CO3 (262 mg, 1.9 mmol) in DMF (10 mL) is stirred at room temperature for 48 hours. Brine (6 mL) and DCM (20 mL) are added. The organic layer is separated and the aqueous layer is extracted with DCM (3×29 mL). The combined organic layers are dried and solvent removed. The residue is purified by PTLC (10% methanol in DCM) to give 1-[3-Ethyl-2-(2-thiazol-2-yl-imidazol-1-ylmethyl)-3H-benzoimidazol-5-yl]-ethanone as a solid. 1H NMR (CDCl3) δ 8.05 (d, 1H), 7.92 (dd, 1H), 7.87 (dd, 1H), 7.81 (dd, 1H), 7.40 (d, 1H), 7.20 (d, 1H), 7.14 (d, 1H), 6.17 (s, 2H), 4.33 (q, 2H), 2.67 (s, 3H), 1.13 (t, 3H).
