Reaction Steps
Sodium azide (14.7 g) was added to a solution of 1-(2-chloroethyl)-2-ethoxymethyl-1H-imidazo[4,5-c]quinolin-4amine (22.8 g prepared according to the method of Part F) in N,N-dimethylformamide (75 mL). The reaction mixture was heated at reflux for several hours and then allowed to cool to ambient temperature overnight. The reaction mixture was poured into water (100 ml) and then extracted 3 times with ethyl acetate. The extracts were combined, washed 3 times with water, dried over magnesium sulfate, filtered and then concentrated to dryness under vacuum to provide crude 1-(2-azidoethyl)-2-ethoxymethyl-1H-imidazo[4,5-c]quinolin4-amine as an oil.
