(2-Propyl-phenoxy)-acetic acid ethyl ester (5.0 g, 22.4 mmol) was added to chlorosulfonic acid (6.6 mL) at 0° C. dropwise. After addition, the mixture was warmed to room temperature slowly and stirred for 2 h. The reaction mixture was poured into ice and stirred for 1 h, filtered and the solid product was washed with water, dried in vacuum oven over night giving the title compound (6.0 g, 83.5%).
