To a 25 mL round bottom flask were charged 0.039 g (0.087 mmol) of 2-{2-methoxymethyl-4-[2-(5-methyl-2-phenyloxazol-4-yl)ethoxy]phenoxy}-2-methylpropionic acid ethyl ester dissolved in 2 mL of ethanol, followed by the addition of 0.22 mL (0.44 mmol) of 2N NaOH. The solution was heated to 55° C. for 1 h. The volatiles were removed in vacuo and the residue was taken up in 10 mL EtOAc and 5 mL of brine and acidified using 1N HCl to give a white solid (0.024 g, 66%). MS (ES) m/e 426 (M+1).
