Reaction Steps
α-(2-Hydroxy-5-sulfophenylazo)acetoacetanilide (40 g) was dissolved in boiling pyridine (750 ml) and acetic anhydride (100 ml) added. Some material precipitated while the reaction mixture was hot. After being cooled, the product was filtered off and dried.
