8.5 g of the thus obtained 4-benzyloxy-2-carbamoyl-6-methyl indole are hydrogenated in a composition of 100 ml methanol and 50 ml ethylene glycol-dimethyl ether during addition of 1.0 g 10% Pd/C up to the absorption of the theoretical amount of hydrogen. The catalyst is aspirated and the filtrate is evaporated in vacuum. There is obtained 5.4 (~93% of theory) 4-hydroxy-2-carbamoyl-6-methyl indole as a light yellow syrup.
