10.7 g of the thus prepared 4-benzyloxy-2-dimethylaminocarbonyl-6-methyl indole are suspended in a mixture of 100 ml methanol and 100 ml ethylene glycol dimethyl ether and hydrogenated after the addition of 1.0 g 10% Pd/C. The catalyst is aspirated and the filtrate is evaporated. There is obtained 7.6 g (~98% of theory) 4-hydroxy-2-dimethylaminocarbonyl-6-methylindole as a brownish solid body, which is further processed without purification.
