Reaction Steps

To a solution of 2-[α-(2-methoxy-phenoxy)-4-chloro-benzyl]-morpholine (11.6 g) and triethylamine (3.5 g) in benzene (100 ml) a solution of CH3I (5.5 g) in benzene (20 ml) was added dropwise at room temperature over 1 hour. Stirring was continued at room temperature for 20 hours, the mixture was filtered and the solvent was evaporated to dryness so obtaining an oil which was separated on silica gel column to give 4-methyl-2-[α-(2-methoxy-phenoxy)-4-chloro-benzyl]-morpholine (7 g; yield 57%).
