Procedure
0.1 m sodium hydroxide solution (24.9 ml) was added dropwise to the product of step (d) (0.5 grams) in refluxing pure methanol (100 ml), with stirring. The whole was refluxed for a further 10 minutes after addition, the methanol was removed under reduced pressure and the title compound obtained by precipitation by the addition of acetone. The product was collected by filtration and dried in vacuo at 60° C. to give 0.37 grams of dark yellow solid.
