Procedure

10.0 parts by weight of 2-butyryl-4-methoxycarbonyl-5-[tetrahydropyran-4-ylmethyl]-cyclohexane-1,3-dione were dissolved in 150 parts by volume of ethanol, and 2.93 parts by weight of ethoxyammonium chloride and 2.71 parts by weight of anhydrous sodium acetate were added. The mixture was stirred at 20° C. for 20 hours, poured into ice-water and extracted with methylene chloride. The organic phase was concentrated to give 10.5 parts by weight of 2-(1-ethoxyaminobutylidene)-4-methoxycarbonyl-5-[tetrahydropyran-4-ylmethyl]-cyclohexane-1,3-dione (compound No. 1) as a viscous oil having the following structure: ##STR7##
