Procedure
4-Carboxybenzaldehyde (2.03 g, 13.3 mmol, Aldrich) and 4-picoline (1.24 g, 13.3 mmol, Aldrich) were placed in a round-bottomed flask, to which a 20 mL of acetic anhydride was added. The reaction mixture was heated to reflux for 24 h. The solid was filtered and the solid was washed with acetic acid then with water before being dried in vacuo, at 50° C. overnight to give the title compound as an off white solid (426 mg, 14%).
