To a round bottom flask equipped with a magnetic stir bar was added 4-(4-Chloro-[1,2,5]thiadiazol-3-yl)-piperazine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (10 g, 32 mmol, 1.0 eq, prepared as Example 1a) and 4M HCl/Dioxane. The reaction was allowed to stir at room temperature for 2 hour. The resulting precipitate was filtered, washed with EtOAc three times, dried in vacuo to give 4-(4-Chloro-[1,2,5]thiadiazol-3-yl)-piperazine hydrochloride (7.8 g) as a white solid.
