15.5 g (93.8 mmol) 4-Methoxy-benzo[d]isothiazole were dissolved in 200 ml ethylene glycol dimethyl ether at room temperature. 10.45 g (188 mmol) sodium methoxide were added. The mixture was heated to 80° C. for 8 h and stirring was continued at room temperature for 16 h. The mixture was divided and one quarter of the mixture was used in the subsequent synthesis without further purification.
