To a solution of 2-((2-methoxyethoxy)methoxy)-3-nitrobenzoic acid methyl ester 5.0 g (17.5 mmol) of step 1 in methanol 50 mL was added 5% Pd/C 0.5 g, and the reactor was filled with hydrogen gas, after which the reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 24 hrs. The catalyst was removed off by celite filtration before concentrating the reaction mixture in a vacuum. Purification by column chromatography (developing solvent: ethylacetate/hexane=1/1) afforded 4.2 g of the title compound (yield 95%).
