step 3—A 10 mL screw-capped tube was charged with 122 (0.021 g, 39.6 μmol), HBr (16.0 mg, 10.8 μL, 198 μmol) and HOAc. After 4 h the reaction mixture was poured into satd. aq. NaHCO3 (50 mL) and extracted with EtOAc (3×20 mL). The organic extract was dried (Na2SO4), filtered and evaporated to 0.020 g (98%) of I-40 as a yellow solid.
