Procedure

3-benzyloxy-2-methyl-5-(2,2,2-trifluoro-1-hydroxy-ethyl)-1H-pyridin-4-one (0.5 g, 1.60 mmol) was dissolved in methanol and hydrogenated over 10% Pd/C for 3 hrs at 50 psi hydrogen on a Parr hydrogenator. The mixture was filtered through CELITE™ and the filtrate was evaporated to give a solid (300 mg, 84.2%).
