Procedure
To a solution of 2-propyl-4-(trifluoromethyl)-1H-indole-5-carbonitrile (Example 153A) (0.150 g, 0.595 mmol) in anhydrous acetonitrile (25 mL) was added Cs2CO3 (1.90 g, 0.0595 mmol) and 4-(bromomethyl)-1,3-thiazole (0.159 g, 0.893 mmol). The mixture was heated under N2, for 2 h. Upon cooling, the mixture was partitioned between EtOAc and water. The organic phase was separated, dried (MgSO4) and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was purified by flash chromatography (0-20% EtOAc-hexanes gradient) to afford a pure product (0.171 g, 82% yield): 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ 8.81-8.80 (d, J=4.0 Hz, 1H), 7.78 (m, 2H), 6.68 (d, J=4.0 Hz, 1H), 6.63 (s, 1H), 5.51 (s, 2H), 2.80-2.76 (t, J=8.0 Hz, 2H), 1.82-1.76 (q, J=8.0 Hz, 2H), 1.06-1.02 (t, J=8.0 Hz, 3H).
