Procedure
To a solution of compound 5.5 (1.25 g, 3.26 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (80 mL), a 1.0 M solution of ICl in CH2Cl2 (8.12 mmol) was added at room temperature and the resulting dark brown solution was stirred for 4 hr at room temperature. The solvents were evaporated in vacuo at 25° C.-35° C. and the residue was dried under high vacuum for 30 min. A light brown sticky material was obtained which was purified by flash column chromatography using gradient of pure CH2Cl2 to 1.5% MeOH in CH2Cl2 to afford the desired compound 5.6 (1.1 g, 66%) as a white solid.
