Procedure
A mixture of 1-benzyl-5-hydroxy-2-oxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-[1,7]naphthyridine-6-carboxylic acid methyl ester (300 mg, 0.96 mmol) and N-bromosuccinimide (180 mg, 1.01 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (3 mL) was refluxed for 3 h. After the mixture was cooled to r.t., solvent was evaporated in vacuo, and the residue was chromatographed (0-30% EtOAc/hexanes+2% AcOH) to give 296 mg of the title compound. MS: (+) m/z 390.98, 392.88 (M+H, 79/81Br)
