A mixture of 1-benzyl-8-cyano-5-hydroxy-2-oxo-3-phenyl-1,2-dihydro-[1,7]naphthyridine-6-carboxylic acid methyl ester (52 mg, 0.127 mmol) and 3-amino-2,2-dimethyl-propionic acid methyl ester (83 mg, 0.633 mmol) in MeOH (3 mL) was heated to 150° C. for 1 h in a CEM microwave reactor. The solvent was evaporated in vacuo and the residue was chromatographed (0-40% EtOAc/hexanes) to give 63 mg of the title compound as a yellow oil. MS: (+) m/z 511.22 (M+1).
