A mixture of 1-benzyl-8-cyano-5-hydroxy-2-oxo-3-phenyl-1,2-dihydro-[1,7]naphthyridine-6-carboxylic acid methyl ester (25 mg, 0.061 mmol), N-(2-amino-ethyl)-N-methyl-methanesulfonamide HCl salt (57 mg, 0.30 mmol), and NaOMe (16 mg, 0.30 mmol) in EtOH (3 mL) was heated at 140° C. for 6 h in a microwave reactor. Solvent was evaporated in vacuo, and the residue was partitioned between EtOAc and 0.1 M HCl. The organic layer was dried over MgSO4 and concentrated. The residue was purified by silica gel chromatography (0-3% MeOH/CH2Cl2) to give 22 mg of the title compound as a light yellow solid. MS: (+) m/z 532.11 (M+1).
