Procedure

A mixture of 5-hydroxy-1-methyl-2-oxo-3-phenyl-1,2-dihydro-[1,7]naphthyridine-6-carboxylic acid methyl ester (67 mg, 0.216 mmol) and N-bromosuccinimide (42 mg, 0.238 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (1 mL) was refluxed for 3 h. Solvent was evaporated in vacuo, and the residue was purified by silica gel chromatography (5-40% EtOAc/hexanes+1% AcOH) to give 69 mg of the title compound as a yellow solid. MS: (−) m/z 387.13, 389.15 (M-1, 79/81Br).
