Procedure
A mixture of 5-hydroxy-2-oxo-1-phenethyl-3-phenyl-1,2-dihydro-[1,7]naphthyridine-6-carboxylic acid methyl ester (57 mg, 0.14 mmol) and N-bromosuccinimide (27 mg, 0.15 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (0.8 mL) was refluxed for 3 h. Solvent was evaporated in vacuo, and the residue was purified by silica gel chromatography (5-40% EtOAc/hexanes) to give 54 mg of the title compound as a light yellow solid. MS: (−) m/z 477.13, 479.08 (M-1, 79/81Br).
