Procedure
A mixture of (S)-5-hydroxy-2-oxo-3-phenyl-1-(1-phenyl-ethyl)-1,2-dihydro-[1,7]naphthyridine-6-carboxylic acid methyl ester (100 mg, 0.25 mmol) and N-bromosuccinimide (49 mg, 0.275 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (1 mL) was refluxed for 3 h. Solvent was evaporated in vacuo, and the residue was purified by silica gel chromatography (5-20% EtOAc/hexanes+1% AcOH) to give 78 mg of the title compound. MS: (−) m/z 477.19, 479.21 (M-1, 79/81Br).
