Procedure
A mixture of 5-hydroxy-2-oxo-3-phenyl-1-(tetrahydro-pyran-4-ylmethyl)-1,2-dihydro-[1,7]naphthyridine-6-carboxylic acid methyl ester (109 mg, 0.277 mmol) and N-bromosuccinimide (54 mg, 0.304 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (1 mL) was refluxed for 3 h. Solvent was evaporated in vacuo, and the residue was purified by silica gel chromatography (5-40% EtOAc/hexanes+1% AcOH) to give 91 mg of the title compound as a light yellow solid. MS: (+) m/z 473.29, 475.18 (M+1, 79/81Br).
