Procedure
To a mixture of 2-(6-bromopyridin-2-yl)-5,7-difluoroquinazolin-4(3H)-one (12, 1.05 g, 3.11 mmol) and MeOH (15 mL) was added NaOMe (25% solution, 50 mL) at room temperature. After 24 hours, another portion of 25% NaOMe was added (25 mL). After an additional 48 hours at room temperature, the reaction was quenched with water and the pH adjusted to 7 with 2N HCl. The volume was reduced by half under reduced pressure and the remaining mixture was extracted with CH2Cl2 (3×250 mL). The combined organic phases were dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to provide the title compound (970 mg, 89%) as an off-white solid. 1H NMR (500 MHz, CDCl3) δ 10.56 (s, 1H), 8.57-8.43 (m, 1H), 7.79-7.74 (m, 1H), 7.71-7.62 (m, 1H), 7.09-6.99 (m, 1H), 6.71-6.65 (m, 1H), 4.02 (s, 3H).
