Reaction Steps

To a solution of bis(4-nitrobenzyl)amine (500 mg, 1.741 mmol) in pyridine (9 mL) was slowly added acetic anhydride (0.18 mL, 1.92 mmol) via syringe. The resulting mixture was stirred at rt for 2 hours, and the reaction was concentrated in vacuo. The residue was dissolved in toluene and evaporated to dryness in vacuo. The residue was dissolved in 19:1 EtOAc:methanol, washed with water and brine, dried (Na2SO4), filtered and concentrated to afford the title compound (551 mg, 96%). MS (APCI) m/z 330.2 (M+H)+.
