A mixture of tert-butyl [(3S,5R)-5-methyl-1-(3-nitropyridin-4-yl)piperidin-3-yl]carbamate (1.14 g, 3.39 mmol) in MeOH was hydrogenated in the presence of 10% Pd on carbon (0.14 g) under 45 psi of hydrogen overnight. The mixture was filtered through diatomaceous earth. The filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to give the sub-title compound (1.04 g, 100%). LCMS calc. for C16H27N4O2 (M+H)+: m/z=307.2. found: 307.3.
